From the beginning of autumn I have been thinking about developing new classes to teach at the PA Gourd Fest. Some years I teach repeat classes, but this year I have 3 new ones and I am excited to share them with you here first! Newly Added! Tree of Life Pendant This class we will be making gourd pendants, burning the Tree of Life design and then layering colored pencil for the dawn sunrise. This class is for all levels. Koi Fish Pyrography This gourd class will cover pyrography of the koi fish, as well as adding the variegated gold leaf. I will also be encouraging my students to make their own fish unique in the way they add the scales and patterns. This is a great all around class that will be fine for beginners to join and fun for intermediate pyrographers alike. Luna Moth Pyrography This will be a fun beginner's class as the pyrography is simple line and stippling in the luna moth. We will also be working with silver leaf in the moon and a fun secret technique I have been playing around with to create a starry sky! Although I was specifically thinking of beginners when developing this class, it would be fun for any level. Black Cat Pyrography Here is one for more advanced students who have been burning for a while but find they need a boost when it comes to fur. We will be looking at textures, eyes, and how I like to do whiskers. Instead of a large gourd, we will be using a smaller cut gourd piece. I will also have hooks to make this hangable, if students want to do that. I will be teaching these classes at the PA Gourd Fest. If you haven't visited the PA Gourd Fest then please check it out this year! Not only is it a great place for budding gourd artists to learn (there will be more classes by other top instructors there) and purchase supplies, but there will be a gallery of finished art to purchase as well. The public is invited to come and see the gourd art competition and vote for their favorite. The theme for this year is "What's in Your Garden?"
The dates for the fest are June 13-15 at the Lebanon Valley Expo Center. Registration for classes begin on April 1, but you can browse classes online soon. I will send out a message on the newsletter when that is available. You can find all the additional info you need on the official website, click the button below!
