Pens for 2022 PA Fest Classes

Howdy gourders!  If you signed up for any of my classes in PA for this year (2022) then you are probably wondering what pyrography pens you will need to bring along with you.  I have 3 favorite pens that I use in 99% of my work, and for my classes we use those pens.  Sometimes you can substitute pens and it is not a problem!

​Below I listed the pens with photos and short description.  Scroll down for your class and which pens are used for those classes.  There will be vendors selling pyrography gear at the fest.  Most of the time you can use what you already have, it is just a matter of adjusting your grip or angle of the pen.  Please contact me before class if you have any questions!  

#1 The Spear 

Spear Tip

#1. Above is the spear tip, this is what we will use for sharp, crisp lines.  The brands shown are Optima (left) and Colwood (right).  It does not not matter what brand you have, just as long as the pen is this same basic shape.

#2 The Shader

#2 The shader is basically the same shape as the spear, but with a 45º angle bend.  Any size or brand will do.  Shown at left with turquoise grip, Optima.  Shown on center and right with black grip, Razertip.

#3 The Ball or Writing

#3 The Ball or Writing tip is used for stippling or very deep dark burning.  The ball tip, Optima brand, is pictured on the left.  The writing tip on the left is by Razertip.  If I would choose one over the other it would be the ball, but if you do not have that the writing tip will work just fine.

You will need the Spear and the Shader tip.
